The Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College is seeking a full-time Event Technician to join our production team. Our 54,000 sq. ft. center houses three performance venues, including a 600-seat concert hall, an 86-seat recital/lecture hall, and an outdoor amphitheater. We serve Skidmores Department of Music along with various other users, both internal and external to the college. With over 130 events each year, we attract a diverse audience of 25,000 people for concerts, multidisciplinary performances, faculty and student recitals, guest lectures, screenings, and college-wide assemblies.

This position offers hands-on experience in live event production and media technology within a dynamic performance venue. Reporting to the Technical Director, the Event Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of events by overseeing audio recording, video broadcasting, live sound engineering, lighting, and stage management. This position also involves supervising student stage crew members, assisting with event logistics, and maintaining Zankels streaming and recording archives.

What Youll Do

Provide technical support for events, including live sound mixing, recording, lighting, and video production.
Set up and strike audio, video, and lighting equipment for rehearsals, performances, and events.
Maintain and troubleshoot PA systems, stage lighting, and broadcast technology.
Supervise and train student production staff (6-10 students) in technical roles.
Manage media content, including archiving concert recordings and producing highlight reels.
Support scheduling for student stage crew assignments.
Occasionally serve as the on-site production supervisor for evening and weekend events.

What Were Looking For

A Bachelors degree in a related field (Performance Technology, Music, A/V Engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
1-3 years of experience in event production, audio/video engineering, or a related field.
Broad technical knowledge of live event production, including sound, video, and lighting.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring crew members.
Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities, with attention to detail.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
