Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the departments policies and procedures. A Certified Orthotist CO is a healthcare professional who is specifically educated and trained to manage comprehensive orthotic patient care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation. Produces orthotic devices as prescribed by the referring physician. Formulation of a treatment plan, with other health care providers as prescribed by the referring physician based upon a comprehensive assessment to design an intervention to alleviate limitations and enhance function. Implementation of the orthotic and/or prosthetic treatment plan, and overseeing certified assistants. Utilization of a follow-up treatment plan that ensures successful orthotic outcomes. Compliance with practice management plans to develop and document policies and procedures to ensure patient protection which includes, but is not limited to: adherence to applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations comprehension of claims development and submission completes in a timely manner according to department policy. This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information. Responsibilities in Quality Improvement Demonstrate knowledge and skills with, Cranial, Spinal, upper and lower limb orthotics, for pediatric and geriatric patients Bachelors degree or higher in Orthotics and Prosthetics for a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited program or a Bachelors degree or higher in any major along with a post-graduate Orthotics and Prosthetic certificate from a CAAHEP accredited program Certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (CO) or Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOCO) Consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), it is the policy of Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital to provide reasonable accommodation when requested by a qualified applicant or employee with a disability, unless such accommodation would cause an undue hardship.
