Responsibilities

Labor and Delivery RNs (L&D RNs) are responsible for monitoring patients throughout labor and serve as the primary point of contact for family members. L&D RNs monitor the babys heart rate and provide immediate care to the newborn. L&D RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform knowledge of phlebotomy, basic IV, and central lines
  • Assess and record maternal vital signs throughout labor and post-partum stages
  • Administer pain medication and other medicines as ordered
  • Educate and support new mothers and families on infant care
